I am in the process of moving back to Chattanooga after living in Nashville for 16 years. It is exciting in a sense that I will be living in the same city as my family again however my concern is the job opportunities for all persons. I am happy that my current employer of almost 10 years have opportunities in my field to work from home. If that was not possible, I would not be able to move back to Chattanooga. A childhood friend of mine said just today that he would move back to Chattanooga (he lives in Chicago) if there were more job opportunities. I am also concerned about the blue collar worker. With plants like Wheland and US Pipe closing, where else can so many people who do not have an education work? I think that is why I sometimes feel afraid of the crime in Chattanooga and the shift of insecurity today in the Brainerd area. There are not many good paying jobs for the blue collar person. So to answer your question, I do not want Chattanooga to become another Memphis TN but I wish that Chattanooga get smart and offer job opportunity for all persons. Without that, the city will not thrieve. Nashville has done exceptionally well since I have lived here and is steady. Everyone has a fair chance of a good living in Nashville. It makes me question my decision to move back to Chattanooga.
